When talking with others – be they potential clients, friends, or a homeowner who is asking questions – one question often comes to the surface – “What is Design/Build anyway – and how does it affect me?” Don’t be alarmed, this is a common question for many people. It must be said that it isn’t your fault for the confusion. The industry has not fully defined it either.

There are several questions that come to mind. What does Green Building mean? How do you do it? How does Green building give the homeowner an advantage?

The state of Indiana has a bill that passed the Senate last month, SB337, and is now before the state House of Representatives. This bill is designed to create a state registry and license of Interior Designers. Theoretically, anyone who creates space studies, specifications, contracts, construction documents, etc., relating to the interior, non-load-bearing structure of either a commercial or private building could be licensed by the state: providing that this person passes the rigorous NCIDQ or ARE exams.
As Central Indiana NARI is opposed to this licensing, so are we. These are the main reasons we are against state licensing of the Interior Design profession:
