What does a Residential Designer provide?

Along with the question of “Where Do I Start?”, I often hear the question, “What do you provide?”  I understand, it’s hard to “see” what a service provider is providing, and then, to justify the cost.

To start, we will assume that we are discussing a professional designer–one who has experience and can show a legitimate business plan (ie: business cards, appropriate presentation materials, professional website, etc.), and ultimately, one whom you trust.

Scary, Unhealthy houses

In the recent press of information regarding the materials in our homes, we’ve all heard of “going green.”  In the interest of trying to set out the definition of that, we’ve posted this article, What is Green Remodeling Anyway. There we give a list of things to consider when selecting materials, work habits, and energy usage.

Today, I came across a poignant illustration of why material selection is important.  Consider this from the American Lung Assocation, a graphical guide to possible pollutants in your home.

I’m not trying to give you nightmares at all…just trying to consider, for myself too, the reasons to “go green”.
